GDPR & Queensland Government Agencies

The European Union’s (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect on 25 May 2018. It aims to harmonise data privacy laws across Europe and replaces existing national data protection rules. The UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has issued a formal enforcement notice in an extra-territorial area (to a Canadian data analytics firm). This confirms that the GDPR regime not only applies to companies within the European Union, but also other areas so long as the processing activities relate to data subjects within the EU.


Queensland Law Reform Commission Consultation Paper

The Queensland Law Reform Commission has released a Consultation Paper on the Review of Queensland’s laws relating to civil surveillance and the protection of privacy in the context of current and emerging technologies.


Christmas and New Year closure

The Office of the Information Commissioner will be closed from 2pm on Monday 24th December for the Christmas and New Year period. We will reopen at 8:30 am on Wednesday January 2, 2019.


Christmas/New Year Timeframes

When agencies are calculating timeframes for the Christmas/New Year period, OIC confirms that only notified public holidays do not count when working out decision due dates.
