Building “Trust through Transparency” - a message from the Information Commissioner

Building Trust through Transparency is important for all Queensland Government Agencies. Strong Right to Information practices help embed the legislative principals, meet community expectations and ensure a more responsive, accountable and open government.

This year, Right to Information Day will be celebrated from 24 – 28 September. It is an opportunity to remind Queenslanders about their right to access government-held information, as well as the government’s responsibility to release information, unless contrary to the public interest.

Drone zones and privacy

While unmanned vehicles or ‘drones’ have been traditionally associated with military use, they are increasingly being used by civilian drone enthusiasts for recreational purposes. This is likely to increase as councils consider and approve designated drone zones in public spaces.

There are a range of guidelines and requirements to consider whilst operating a drone such as visual line of sight, safe distances and noise, however it’s also important to consider the privacy of others when operating drones in particular those with recording equipment on-board.
