Preventative extension requests – managing potential office closures

Over the past week the Enquiries Service has received several queries about preventing applications from going deemed if an agency's offices shut down as part of COVID-19 prevention or containment. One way to prepare for any potential closure, particularly if RTI staff do not have the ability to work on applications from home, is to requests extensions of time now.


Timeframes and work from home and other arrangements

The current disaster events in Queensland may result in an increase in agency staff working from home, on leave, or redirected to alternative duties to provide essential services. This may impact on the ability of agencies to meet the timeframes prescribed under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) (RTI Act) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (IP Act) for making decisions and handling privacy complaints.
