Privacy Awareness Week 2019

Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) will be held from 12-18 May 2019 and is an opportunity to remind Queenslanders about their privacy rights and responsibilities for protecting and respecting personal information.

This year’s theme is ‘Build privacy into your everyday’, which also underpins the broader focus on issues like biometrics, data, de-identification and re-identification.

The webinar is designed for agency officers who wish to understand a PIA, explore how it can be used to assess privacy impacts and identify ways in which obligations under the Information Privacy Act can be met.

Our Information Management report was tabled in Parliament on 14 February 2019. We surveyed departments to find out what level of information management they aim to achieve, and their self‑assessment of their current maturity.

Good information management helps Queensland Government departments exploit fully the value of information and data as a strategic asset, deliver better government, improve service delivery to the community, and meet right to information and privacy obligations.


Audit of awareness of privacy obligations

On Tuesday, 12 February 2019, we tabled our report in Parliament on how three government agencies educate and train their employees about their privacy obligations.

The public entrusts Queensland government agencies with their personal information in delivering their services to the community. The inadvertent or deliberate disclosure of personal information in carrying out these services can have serious consequences for the individual whose privacy has been breached, the organisation and the employee responsible for the breach.
