New guideline - Charging for applications received before 1 July 2022

June 27, 2022 - 10:50am

The Right to Information Act 2009’s (RTI Act) application fee and processing charges will increase on 1 July 2022. The RTI application fee will increase to $53.90 and the processing charge will increase to $8.35. The access charge under the RTI Act and Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act) will remain $0.25 per A4 page.

From 1 July 2022, how you determine the amount of the application fee, processing charge and access charge under the RTI Act and IP Act will also change.

Currently, the amount of the application fee and charges are listed in the RTI or IP Regulation. From 1 July 2022, the amounts will be replaced with fee units. Each fee unit will have a dollar value, which will be listed in the Acts Interpretation (Fee Unit) Regulation 2022 (Fee Unit Regulation).

To determine the amount of the application fee or charge, you can multiply the number of fee units by the dollar value in the Fee Unit Regulation, then follow the rounding instructions in the RTI or IP Regulation. Alternatively, you can check the Fees and Charges guideline for the current amounts or contact the Enquiries Service.
