Defining the Sensor Society conference
Official launch of Privacy Awareness Week – media invitation
Privacy is a hot topic for all Queenslanders and Acting Privacy Commissioner Clare Smith is keen to discuss how people can protect their privacy.
Ms Smith will launch Privacy Awareness Week (4 to 10 May) at the Defining the Sensor Society conference at the University of Queensland on Thursday 8 May.
The conference looks at the increasing use of sensors – “ever-watching, ever-sensing, always-on interactive devices” – such as drones, smartphones, biometric scanning and other technology to build profiles on individuals.
Leading privacy and technology experts will explore the current and potential uses of these sensors and consider their impact on individual privacy.
Keynote speakers include Australia Privacy Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim, former High Court Justice Michael Kirby AC CMG and leading academics from Princeton, the University of London and the University of California.
Ms Smith will be available for interview immediately after the launch at 8.30am.
