We concluded that the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service has fully implemented three recommendations, is progressing implementation of one recommendation and has not actioned the remaining recommendation.

Most notably, the hospital and health service has:

  • improved promotion of administrative access
  • improved staff training in right to information and information privacy
  • published a list of its personal information holdings, and
  • streamlined application handling, particularly applications requiring healthcare decisions.

We acknowledge the hospital and health service’s plans to implement the outstanding recommendations. The hospital and health service needs to ensure it now takes action as planned to realise the benefits of these recommendations.
