New guidelines released on the Queensland Privacy Principles

August 7, 2024 - 9:16am

OIC continues to develop resources to help agencies prepare for the Information Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2023 (IPOLA) reforms, with the next release of guidelines focusing on the Queensland Privacy Principles (QPPs).

Newly published guidelines now complete the suite of seventeen QPP guidelines. These include a summary guide, in response to recent stakeholder feedback, along with detailed information on the collection, use and disclosure of personal information in different scenarios.

The newly published QPP guidelines cover:

  • Basic guide to the QPPs
  • QPP 3 and 6 – permitted general situations
  • QPP 3 and 6 – health agencies collection use or disclosure of health information
  • QPP 3 and 6 – authorised by law or court order
  • QPP 3 and 6 – law enforcement agencies and activities
  • QPP 6 – use or disclosure
  • QPP 6 – use or disclosure for natural justice
  • QPP 11 – security deidentification and destruction of personal information

These guidelines deal with the IPOLA amendments in a general way. They will not be operative until the changes commence (predominantly on 1 July 2025).

OIC will continue to roll out guidelines, associated resources and training (coming soon), and update subscribers through the weekly newsletter.
