An agency or Minister can refuse access to all or part of a document under section 47(3)(a) and section 48 of the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) (RTI Act) to the extent the document contains exempt information.

The exempt information categories are listed in schedule 3 of the RTI Act.

The RTI Act is not intended to prevent or discourage the giving of access to documents containing exempt information. An agency or Minister can decide to give access to documents containing exempt information if they consider it would be appropriate to do so.

These pages explain how to apply the exempt information provisions.
