Campaigns

Privacy Awareness Week (PAW)

Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is an annual initiative of the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA), held as a week-long campaign in May. PAW provides an opportunity for public sector agencies and the community to get involved and highlight the importance of protecting personal information and respecting privacy.

International Access to Information Day (IAID)

International Access to Information Day (IAID) is an international annual event held on 28 September. IAID raises awareness of a citizen’s right to access government information and highlights the importance of open and transparent information access in demonstrating integrity and trust in government. We host the Solomon Lecture as part of our IAID celebrations, named in honour of Dr David Solomon, the Chair of the Independent FOI Review Panel in 2007-08.

Information sharing in an emergency

Preparing and planning ahead before emergencies happen is so important. Queensland public sector agencies and staff need to know their privacy responsibilities when it comes to sharing personal information with other agencies or emergency services. Timely exchange of accurate and up-to-date information can help save lives in emergencies while also allowing for flexibilities where health and safety of individuals may be at risk.

Education

OIC Webinars

The on-demand recordings from our 2025-26 webinars are now available. These webinars are designed to support public sector agencies with obligations under the Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act) and the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act) and reflect in-person training delivered during the year.

Online self-paced learning

We provide a range of online training modules which are designed to be self-paced and available at your convenience. Access to these courses is with external partner Kineo, and officers can sign up as an individual or an agency. Find out more about OIC's online learning portal and how to register for an online account.

OIC forums

We host forums for Queensland public sector privacy and right to information practitioners. These provide an opportunity to share information and learnings, and understand the risks or issues faced by officers as they perform their duties under the RTI Act and IP Act. When a forum is scheduled, details will be communicated via the Practitioner group email list.
