OIC annual campaigns

Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is an annual initiative of the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA), held as a week-long campaign in May.

PAW provides an opportunity for public sector agencies and the community to get involved and highlight the importance of protecting personal information and respecting privacy.

International Access to Information Day (IAID) is an international annual event held on 28 September.

IAID raises awareness of a citizen’s right to access government information and highlights the importance of open and transparent information access in demonstrating integrity and trust in government.

Since 2009, OIC has hosted the Solomon Lecture as part of its IAID celebrations. The lecture is named in honour of Dr David Solomon, who was the Chair of the Independent FOI Review Panel appointed by the Queensland State Government to review Queensland's Freedom of Information laws in 2007-08 and who delivered the inaugural lecture in 2009.

Preparing and planning ahead before emergencies happen is so important.

Queensland public sector agencies and staff need to know their privacy responsibilities when it comes to sharing personal information with other agencies or emergency services.

After all, timely exchange of accurate and up-to-date information can help save lives in emergencies.

The Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act) contains protections and provisions for personal information Queensland public sector agencies hold while also allowing for flexibilities in emergencies where health and safety of individuals may be at risk.

OIC Forums

OIC regularly hosts forums with privacy and right to information practitioners to share information and learnings, and understand the risks or issues faced by officers as they perform their duties under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) and Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld).

When a forum is scheduled, details will be shown below and communicated via the weekly newsletter. Subscribe to our weekly newsletter to be notified when these opportunities become available.
