Amending personal information held by government
Under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld), you have the right to apply to a Queensland government agency to amend your personal information if you believe it is inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, or misleading. This ensures that government-held records reflect accurate information about you.
Ways to amend your personal information
You can request changes to your personal information in the following ways:
- Administrative amendment
Some agencies may correct personal information through informal processes. Contact the agency to find out if this option is available. - Formal amendment application
If administrative amendment is not available or suitable, you can submit a formal application under the RTI Act. To apply formally, you will need to:- contact the agency that holds the information
- apply in writing (email is acceptable) for amendment of information
- provide a copy of identification and clearly explain why the information is incorrect
- submit supporting evidence, if available.
There is no fee for an amendment application, but you must have had access to the information before they can apply to have it amended.
