December 21, 2022 - 7:49am

On 7-8 December 2022, OIC attended the Meeting of the Association of Information Access Commissioners (AIAC) of Australia and New Zealand, held in the National Library, Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand.

The AIAC comprises independent Information Commissioners and Ombudsmen of Australia and New Zealand and meets bi-annually. This was the second meeting for 2022.

Discussions focused on the critical role played by information access schemes in supporting integrity in government in the 21st century. AIAC members observed that government agencies need to build strong culture, systems and practices around both information management and record-keeping through addressing delays, proactive disclosure, and technology enablement.

The AIAC recognised that there exists opportunities for engagement and learning on information access issues with nearby Asia-Pacific regions and looks forward to working towards effective international engagement on these issues over the coming year.
