Stage 2 IPOLA training begins

October 31, 2024 - 1:44pm

This week OIC staff visited the Sunshine Coast to deliver IPOLA Stage 2 – Build Knowledge training.

Almost 100 privacy, right to information and other information management stakeholders participated across three focused training modules including Mandatory Notification of Data Breach (MNDB) scheme, Queensland Privacy Principles (QPPs), and Right to Information (RTI) reforms.

Held over two days, the sessions were run by Acting Privacy Commissioner Jim Forbes, Right to Information Commissioner Stephanie Winson and MNDB specialist Andrew Partington.

The training delivered important information on each of the topics and provided practitioners with opportunities to consider how the reforms would be applied through a range of scenarios. Each session also allowed time for questions and answers.

Further free training sessions for Stage 2 will take place in Townsville, Cairns, Brisbane, Mackay, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Logan and Longreach.

OIC recommends all Queensland public sector agencies start preparing now, ahead of the IPOLA reforms commencing on 1 July 2025, followed by the MNDB scheme beginning on 1 July 2026 for local government.

If you are a Queensland public sector employee and would like to attend, please register now for the Stage 2 training.

More information about the IPOLA Act reforms can be found on the Queensland legislation website and on our dedicated IPOLA webpage, which also includes a range of guidelines and a recording of the Stage 1 training.
