Identities of parents of students – application of s.44(1)
The applicant sought access to documents, following a meeting with the principal of the school in which she teaches, about concerns expressed by the parents of some of her students. The Department failed to make a decision within the prescribed time, but subsequently provided the applicant with access to all relevant documents, subject to the deletion of small segments of matter in two documents which identified those parents.
Applying the principles established in Stewart and Department of Transport (1993) 1 QAR 227, AC Barker found that the identifying matter qualified for exemption under s.44(1) of the FOI Act.
