Make a privacy complaint
Under the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (IP Act), if you believe a Queensland government agency has dealt with your personal information in a way that is not consistent with the privacy principles (or conditions attached to a public interest approval) you can make a privacy complaint.
Before you make a complaint to us
If the agency does not respond within 45 business days, or you are not satisfied with its response, you can make a written complaint to us.

It is important to note the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) does not have an investigative or determination role in privacy complaints. Rather, we provide a mediation service to the parties involved in the complaint. If OIC decides to accept a complaint, we must consider whether it can be resolved between the parties, and then take all reasonable steps to achieve a resolution.
If a resolution cannot be reached, you can ask OIC to refer the complaint to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT). QCAT has the power to hear and determine the subject matter of the privacy complaint. You and the agency will be involved in the hearing before QCAT.
How to make a complaint to us
To bring your privacy complaint to OIC, it must be made in writing, and include your name and contact details and a brief description of your privacy complaint.
