Webinar: Privacy in Local Government Series - Privacy Impact Assessments

July 5, 2022 - 12:18pm

We're delivering a webinar on Privacy Impact Assessments as part of our Privacy in Local Government Series. It will be delivered on Tuesday, 19 July 2022.

A Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) is a valuable tool that councils can use to assess the privacy impacts of new projects that involve the management of personal information. PIA’s are an essential part of Privacy by Design and can identify ways in which the obligations set out in the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (IP Act) can be met.

While each PIA will be written to suit the project, they will all have three core components:

  1. mapping the personal information flows within the program
  2. identifying the relevant privacy principle for each flow
  3. addressing the resulting privacy obligations into the design and implementation of the project.

This online session gives you the opportunity to build upon your existing privacy knowledge by examining a scenario-based privacy impact assessment (PIA) and will give you information on conducting a PIA in an easy-to-understand format so that you will have the confidence to do a PIA in your council.
