Supporting local councils with privacy and cyber security tips during PAW
Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) 2026 is now underway, spotlighting the importance of protecting personal information and fostering a culture of privacy across Queensland.
OIC has adopted a digital approach to supporting PAW this year, providing equitable access for everyone.
As part of our delivery, the following recordings are now available on the Local Council webpage:
- a presentation with the Queensland Government Cyber Security Unit (CSU) that discusses privacy and cyber security in local councils
- a Q&A session answering questions raised by local councils about the mandatory notification of data breach (MNDB) scheme that will commence on 1 July 2026.
To further support local councils, CSU are hosting Exercise PRISM on 17 June 2026.
This initiative provides local councils with a hands-on opportunity to test their cyber response plans and strengthen their readiness to manage potential data breaches.
OIC encourages all local councils to participate in this exercise to support preparations for the MNDB scheme.
