Support Open Data Day 2023

February 27, 2023 - 8:12am

OIC recognises the value of open data and its role in supporting open, transparent and accountable government, which is why our agency will once again be recognising Open Data Day in March 2023.

The annual celebration is an opportunity to raise awareness about the benefits of open data and encourage adoption of open data policies in government, business and civil society.

It goes hand-in-hand with proactive disclosure of government-held information and is consistent with Queensland public sector agencies’ obligations under the Right to Information Act 2009.

This year’s theme is ‘Open Data to AI’ and explores how open data is playing a critical role in this field and other emerging technologies.

OIC encourages other public sector agencies to get on-board and not only support the day, but also adopt more open data strategies.

Making non-sensitive data available for anyone to access, use and share is important to build trust in government, as it can increase participation, support evidence-based decision making and help develop innovative new services.

Open Data Day events are running from 4 to 10 March 2023 across the world.
