Show your support for Open Data Day 2024

February 15, 2024 - 9:01am

OIC will be marking Open Data Day in March, because we believe in the value of open data and its role in supporting open, transparent and accountable government.

Events will be happening around the world from 2-8 March and the community, public servants, designers, developers and statisticians are encouraged to get involved.

This year’s theme will focus on open data for advancing sustainable development goals.

The day is an opportunity to raise awareness about the benefits of open data and encourage adoption of open data policies in government, business and civil society.

It goes hand-in-hand with proactive disclosure of government-held information and is consistent with Queensland public sector agencies’ obligations under the Right to Information Act 2009.

OIC encourages other public sector agencies to get on-board and not only support the day, but also adopt more open data strategies.

Making non-sensitive data available for anyone to access, use and share is important to build trust in government, as it can increase participation, support evidence-based decision making and help develop innovative new services.
