Show your support for International Access to Information Day 2023

August 23, 2023 - 10:20am

OIC is encouraging Queensland public sector agencies and the community to join us in marking International Access to Information Day (IAID) on 28 September 2023.

This year’s theme in Queensland is ‘Digital inclusion: Connecting people to information’.

Digital inclusion is about ensuring that all Australians can access and use digital technologies effectively. We are now experiencing an accelerating digital transformation in many aspects of economic and social life. Everyone should have the opportunity to benefit from digital technologies: to manage their health, access education and services, participate in cultural activities, organise their finances, follow news and media, and connect with family, friends, and the wider world. This extends to using digital technologies to access government-held information or exercise information access rights.

We all need to be aware of how factors influencing digital inclusion impact on an individual’s right to access information, including government‑held information, so they can make informed decisions about matters affecting them, access services and participate in a healthy democratic society.

To help support the campaign across Queensland, we encourage everyone to visit our IAID campaign webpage to learn more about information access rights and responsibilities and to download IAID resources including a poster, social media images and other digital assets.
