Privacy Awareness Week 2026 is here
Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is being celebrated around the country this week and provides the perfect opportunity for everyone to find out about their privacy rights or, if public sector staff, their responsibilities.
This year’s theme is Smart tech, smarter choices: Protecting your privacy in the age of AI. It focuses on the choices we make around technology, privacy and the growing influence of artificial intelligence.
As part of the celebrations, OIC is releasing a series of on-demand video presentations across a range of privacy related topics for both the community and public sector.
Queenslanders are encouraged to watch the PAW welcome message from Information Commissioner, Joanne Kummrow, that provides an overview of the week’s activities, why PAW is important and how people can show their support while learning something new.
The week’s keynote focuses on privacy in the digital world and other hot topics covered by the presentations include data breaches, community and agency support, cyber security tips for local councils and how senior leaders can embed a ‘privacy aware’ culture in workplaces.
Queenslanders have the chance to get familiar with new Privacy Commissioner, Alexander White, who features in several videos.
Mr White says people can do a range of things every day to protect their privacy, from updating privacy settings on devices to reading terms and conditions before downloading new apps, using strong passphrases and multifactor authentication, not oversharing personal information on social media, and talking about privacy tips with friends and family.
