PAW keynote and panel discussion now online

June 28, 2023 - 12:27pm

This year’s Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) launch held on 2 May 2023 in Brisbane (Meeanjin) brought together experts to discuss data breaches, protecting privacy and personal information, risks to agencies as well as resilience. A recording of the event is now available.

Information security expert Mr Troy Hunt, CEO of the website ‘Have I Been Pwned’, delivered the keynote titled ‘Lessons from billions of breached records’.

Mr Hunt gave a fascinating behind the scenes presentation about what has caused some of the devastating data breaches in recent times and how they continue to wreak havoc.

The keynote was followed by an expert panel discussion moderated by journalist Ms Jillian Whiting.

Panellists discussed how we can make organisations more resilient in the face of increasing cyber threats and human error, how to identify risks and how to cultivate a culture where employees prioritise privacy, which tied back to this year’s PAW theme Privacy 101: Back to Basics.

The expert panel consisted of:

  • Mr Troy Hunt, CEO of ‘Have I Been Pwned’, Microsoft Regional Director
  • Dr Alistair Ping, Adjunct Professor at QUT Graduate School of Business
  • Ms Nicole Stephensen, International Association of Privacy Professionals Member and KnowledgeNet Chair for Queensland
  • Mr Paxton Booth, Privacy Commissioner, Queensland.

PAW is an annual celebration shining a light on the importance of protecting and respecting personal information, whether you are a member of the community or a public sector agency that deals with people’s personal information.
