OIC welcomes new Privacy Commissioner
The Office of the Information Commissioner Queensland welcomes new Privacy Commissioner, Alexander White, who starts in the role from 1 October 2025.
Mr White previously served as Bermuda’s first Privacy Commissioner from January 2020 to September 2025, and on the European Commission Working Group to draft the first General-Purpose AI Code of Practice under the EU AI Act.
Queensland Information Commissioner, Joanne Kummrow, said OIC was excited for Mr White to join the team and continue the important work of the statutory agency for the people of Queensland.
“Alex is an experienced Commissioner and has a deep understanding of privacy and data protection issues, including on a global level,” Ms Kummrow said.
“He will continue working with public sector agencies to embed good privacy practices and a ‘privacy aware’ culture, while also protecting the privacy rights of Queenslanders,” she said.
“We welcome him to OIC and wish him all the best during his term.”
Previously, Mr White was an Executive Committee Member for the Global Privacy Assembly which sets the strategic direction for privacy regulators worldwide, developed a privacy program for the US State of South Carolina and was a privacy advisor to the US Department of Homeland Security.
Mr White has been appointed as Queensland Privacy Commissioner for a five-year term.
The Information Commissioner thanked OIC officers who have acted in the role in the interim period, “Jim Forbes, Susan Shanley and Jane Williams each served as Acting Privacy Commissioner and played a significant role in overseeing the implementation of the IPOLA reforms and stewarding change within the OIC and our functions.”
