OIC encourages open data strategies and policies
OIC invites you to celebrate and promote Open Data Day (7-13 March), which is being recognised around the world with events to raise awareness about the benefits of open data and the value it adds to transparent and accountable government.
As Queensland’s integrity agency, tasked with promoting government transparency and information access, OIC is promoting Open Data Day. In an era of mis- and disinformation, access to factual, reliable government held data and information plays a significant role in fostering public trust. We encourage all public sector agencies to adopt open data strategies and policies that advance transparent and accountable government.
Open data aligns with OIC’s position to proactively disclose government-held information and is consistent with Queensland public sector agencies’ obligations under the Right to Information Act 2009.
Making factual, reliable and informative data available for anyone to access, use and share fosters trust in government, encourages community participation, drives evidence-based decision making, enables local problem solving and advances innovation.
More information and a calendar of events can be found on the Open Data Day website.
