New free RTI online course from 1 March 2023

February 15, 2023 - 10:39am

OIC is pleased to announce the release of a new free online course, titled, ‘An introduction to RTI (Right to Information)’.

This new course will better meet the needs of a diverse user group by making the course more concise with a focus on simple key concepts and scenarios to aid comprehension and retention.

This course aims to let participants know:

  • what RTI is
  • how it applies to them
  • how it benefits everyone
  • what they can do if they are asked about getting access to information.

This course will also explain the differences between a formal RTI application and other ways of accessing government-held information.

Currently, OIC’s online training portal offers an RTI general awareness course. While this course will remain available to participants its name will changed to, ‘RTI – stepping through rights, responsibilities and roles’.This change better reflects the depth and breadth of information delivered in the course and offers participants an opportunity to learn more about Queensland’s Right to Information legislation. This course builds upon the concepts introduced in ‘An introduction to RTI’.

From 1 March 2023, the new ‘An introduction to RTI’ course will be released to our online training portal and the RTI general awareness course name change will be applied.

All online training portal account holders will automatically be enrolled in the new course. The RTI general awareness course name change will not affect current enrolments - only the course name will change.
