Introducing the OIC Agency Portal: launching 1 July

June 11, 2025 - 11:11am

The Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) will launch the OIC Agency Portal on 1 July. The platform has been designed to help agencies covered by the Information Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2023 (IPOLA) to meet their reporting obligations under the new Mandatory Notification of Data Breach (MNDB) scheme. This launch aligns with the commencement of the IPOLA, marking a significant advancement in safeguarding personal information and facilitating a timely response to data breach cases.

The MNDB scheme strengthens privacy protections across agencies by requiring the notification of eligible data breaches. The OIC developed the Agency Portal to streamline this process, providing an efficient platform for managing both voluntary and mandatory data breach reports and for viewing active agency-related privacy complaints. In addition, the platform provides agencies with access to active privacy complaint cases involving their agency.

Key features of the OIC Agency Portal

The portal offers a range of features to simplify reporting and improve privacy complaint management:

  • Quick response to data breach events: Guides agencies through the necessary information to provide during a data breach, enabling a prompt and effective response.
  • Self-management: Enables authorised agency users to independently assess and report on voluntary and mandatory data breach obligations, as well as access privacy complaints submitted by the public concerning their agency. This streamlines processes, reducing time spent on phone calls and emails, and allowing for more focused and effective communication.
  • Simplified information sharing: Automatically stores of all case files, providing authorised users with easy access to relevant information and ensuring sensitive information is handled appropriately.
  • Privacy-first design: Reduces reliance on manual processes and lowers the risk of errors or accidental disclosures.
  • Live case tracking: Enables agencies to monitor the real-time status of their data breach cases and/or privacy complaints, improving visibility and oversight throughout the case management process.

Supporting agencies in strengthening privacy practices

The OIC Agency Portal is more than a reporting tool—it is an easy-to-use platform that helps agencies uphold their privacy obligations. With real-time document sharing and status updates, the portal enables agencies to respond quickly and effectively to data breaches and privacy complaints, reducing potential harm to individuals and organisations.

Privacy officers and other stakeholders within agencies are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the portal and its features. The OIC will provide guidance and support to ensure a smooth transition to the new system ahead of the launch on 1 July.
