Information Awareness Week explores crucial role of information management in AI
Artificial intelligence (AI) creates new and interesting pathways for accessing information, which is why, as the information access regulator in Queensland, OIC is again supporting Information Awareness Week in 2026.
Running from 16–22 March, Information Awareness Week (IAW) brings together organisations in the records, archives, library, knowledge, information and data management communities to promote and improve practices for managing and providing access to information.
This year’s theme, ‘Information management professionals power the AI ecosystem’, explores the essential role information management practitioners play in enabling trusted, ethical and effective AI.
The IAW seminar and event webinars will spark conversations and encourage attendees to collaborate on how information quality, governance and records management can shape the future of AI in Australia. The Queensland Information Commissioner has previously published her views on having such conversations: Taking the right path, not the fast lane - Government News.
These views encourages the public sector, including the information management community to reflect on the opportunities presented by AI and explore ways to strengthen practices that support ethical and transparent use of AI .
Stay tuned to OIC’s LinkedIn channel during IAW for related posts and visit the National Archives Australia website to find out more about IAW and associated webinars.
