Audit on Responding to access requests for government-held information

June 10, 2025 - 11:02am

Today, the Chair of the Justice, Integrity and Community Safety parliamentary committee tabled the Information Commissioner’s audit report about responding to access requests for government-held information.

The audit examined the practices and challenges in three agencies with higher than average rates of delay in processing formal applications in 2021-22 and 2022-23: Brisbane City Council, Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service and Queensland Police Service.

The audit report identifies key factors affecting timely and efficient responses to formal access requests:

  • leadership, culture and resources
  • people
  • customer-focussed service delivery
  • systems.

The three agencies have taken steps to address these factors and report improved service delivery in giving access to information.

The report and its findings are relevant to all Queensland government agencies. It includes recommendations to them on how to improve service delivery in responding to   access requests for government-held information.
