Many agencies, including OIC, are seeing an increase in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to assist external review applicants and privacy complainants.

OIC has published new guidance to help individuals and public sector agencies better understand the benefits and challenges of using AI.

Queensland Information Commissioner, Joanne Kummrow, said it’s important to recognise that AI can help in an external review or privacy complaint process, however, there are pitfalls.

“We’re seeing more correspondence and submissions with irrelevant, incorrect, out-of-date or false information. Sometimes this includes foreign case law or legislation that does not exist or apply in Queensland,” Ms Kummrow said.

“It’s important to know that external review or privacy complaint matters using this type of information may be delayed, declined or refused,” she said.
