Law Enforcement and Public Safety Exemption

This two-part video presentation on Law Enforcement and Public Safety Exemption is designed for agency officers who make decisions under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) (RTI Act) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) (IP Act).

It draws on existing OIC material and builds on those resources, adding explanations and practical guidance to help viewers better understand this extensive exempt information provision.  We exclude the Crime and Corruption Commission portion of the exemption, which is significant enough to need an entire video of its own, but the video covers all aspects of section 10(1), (2) and (3) of schedule 3 of the RTI Act. This includes information that is exempt because it could be reasonably expected to:

  • prejudice an investigation
  • identify a confidential source of information
  • result in someone being subjected to a serious act of harassment; and
  • facilitate a person's escape from lawful custody.
