2014 Solomon Lecture

The Office of the Information Commissioner is pleased to present Anni Rowland-Campbell delivering the 2014 Solomon Lecture : Government in the age of the 'Social Machine' as part of 2014 Right to Information Day.

Anni Rowland-Campbell will explore 21st century government as a “social machine” and consider how such machines harness digital technologies in order to deliver more effective and efficient services, develop better business practices, and enable better accountability and transparency.

About Anni Rowland-Campbell

Anni is a Director of Intersticia and is fundamentally an observer and practitioner of Web Science and an advocate for digital literacy which brings together the knowledge and experience of technology, culture, and society.

In her early years Anni lived and worked in Melbourne, Sydney and London, and worked in various roles at the Sydney Opera House, the National Theatre of Great Britain, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Julian Ashton Art School, and the Australian Opera. She then became Research Officer to Hon. Peter Collins QC MP, then NSW Minister for the Arts within the newly elected Coalition Government, which afforded the opportunity to contribute towards the encouragement and support of the arts at a strategic policy and funding level. About the Solomon Lecture

The Solomon Lecture was named in honour of Dr David Solomon AM, who was the Chair of the Independent FOI Review Panel appointed by the Queensland State Government to review Queensland's Freedom of Information laws in 2007-08. Dr Solomon delivered the inaugural 2009 lecture in Brisbane.

Since 2009, the Solomon Lecture has been given by:

  • Mr Don Watson, who spoke on the theme of "Accessibility of public language"
  • Dr Nicholas Gruen, on "Government in the age of Web 2.0: Connect, Engage, Innovate"
  • Professor Geoff Gallop, on the theme of “Is integrated government possible?”
  • Professor Anna Stewart, on "Finding gold in mountains of administrative data"
