The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity, The Honourable Deb Frecklington, has announced the appointment of Alexander White as Queensland’s new Privacy Commissioner.
Mr White has been Bermuda’s Privacy Commissioner since 2020 and prior to this, developed a privacy program for the US State of South Carolina and was a privacy advisor to the US Department of Homeland Security.
We look forward to Mr White joining our team and continuing our work to protect the privacy rights of Queenslanders and embed good privacy practices throughout the public sector.
Queensland Information Commissioner, Joanne Kummrow, said Mr White’s appointment reflects the Crisafulli Government and OIC’s commitment to lifting the public sector’s capability in protecting the personal information of Queenslanders.
“Bringing with him significant experience, at a time of change for Queensland’s privacy laws, is timely and welcome,” Ms Kummrow said.
“I look forward to welcoming Mr White to Queensland and thank James Forbes and Susan Shanley for acting as the Privacy Commissioner for periods over the past year.”
Mr White has been appointed for a five-year term, and will start as Privacy Commissioner in October.
