Qld joins Global Privacy Assembly

Queensland Information Commissioner Rachael Rangihaeata attended the virtual 43rd Global Privacy Assembly (GPA) hosted by Mexico on 18-21 October 2021.

The Office of the Information Commissioner Queensland was honoured to be welcomed as a new accredited member of the GPA.

During the Closed Session GPA members and observers discussed the GPA strategic direction and forthcoming work, and shared insights on data sharing, innovation, and lessons learned from the pandemic.

Australian Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner Angelene Falk led reporting by the GPA Strategic Direction Sub-Committee and working groups.

The final day of the Closed Session saw discussions on enforcement cooperation and fostering innovation through engagement, as well as voting on resolutions presented by the membership including:

Resolution on Data Sharing for the Public Good

Resolution on Children’s Digital Rights

Resolution on Government Access to Data, Privacy and the Rule of Law, Principles of Governmental Access to Personal Data for National Security and Public Safety Purposes
