New guidelines released explaining privacy reforms

June 14, 2024 - 12:40pm

OIC has published eight new guidelines referencing privacy reforms, as part of the Information Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2023 (IPOLA), which will improve transparency and accountability of Queensland public sector agencies and strengthen privacy protections for individuals.

It is important to note these guidelines do not apply to the current reprints of the Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act) and Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act) and they will not be operative until the IPOLA changes commence, which will be 1 July 2025.

The guidelines reference privacy reforms, including five of the new Queensland Privacy Principles, and they also build on previously issued IPOLA guidelines which provide an overview of the key amendments to the IP Act and RTI Act.

These IPOLA guidelines explain the reforms and are a significant component of our strategy to help Queensland agencies prepare for and comply with the important changes, most of which are expected to come into effect on 1 July 2025.

If you have any questions or feedback, visit the IPOLA webpage or contact the IPOLA team via email.
