Introductory IPOLA Guidelines

May 29, 2024 - 2:30pm

OIC has released two new guidelines to help agencies better understand upcoming changes under the Information Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2023 (IPOLA), which amends the Information Privacy Act 2009 and Right to Information Act 2009.

The IPOLA Act represents significant reform which will clarify and improve the operation of information privacy and right to information frameworks, better protect personal information, and provide appropriate responses and remedies for data breaches and misuse of personal information by agencies.

IPOLA Guidelines explain the reforms and they are a significant component of our strategy to assist Queensland government agencies to prepare for and comply with these important changes, most of which are expected to come into effect on 1 July 2025.

These two guidelines explain the key amendments to each Act and will introduce agencies to issues that should be considered when preparing for the changes.  More guidelines and resources will follow soon.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or feedback about IPOLA, view the IPOLA web page or contact the IPOLA team via email.
