Celebrate Human Rights Week 2025

November 26, 2025 - 10:01am

OIC joins the Queensland public sector in recognising Human Rights Week from 3 to 10 December 2025. Every year we mark this special occasion that culminates in the United Nations’ Human Rights Day on 10 December.

This year’s theme for Human Rights Week is 'Our Rights, Our Responsibilities' and aims to empower individuals and institutions to uphold human rights in everyday life and inspire action that strengthens our human rights culture.

Queensland’s Human Rights Act began in 2019, and Human Rights Week is a good time to reflect on what the Act means for our community and how we can protect and strengthen human rights for Queenslanders into the future.

Human Rights Week is a significant occasion for OIC because of the work we do as an independent statutory body serving Queensland.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights enshrines the right to privacy as a fundamental human right. Along with the right to freedom of opinion and expression, the declaration also protects the right to seek and receive information.

Queensland’s Human Rights Act includes the right to ask for and receive information and ideas from other people—including the government as well as the right to privacy.

Recognising our shared human rights brings our community together and helps us use our shared values to address the challenges we all face.
