The Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) provided this submission to the Queensland Parliamentary Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee, to inform its deliberations on the Police and Other Legislation (Identity and Biometric Capability) Amendment Bill 2018 (the bill). The OIC’s comments pertain only to the elements of the bill facilitating the nation-wide identity matching service regime, and advocate for adequate safeguards to mitigate risks inherent in the regime.
