Privacy in Local Government Series: Topic 1 – Building a privacy framework

Good privacy governance can improve business productivity and help to develop more efficient business processes. Good privacy governance will also help you manage both the risk of a privacy breach, and your response should one occur. This session will take you through the steps on establishing a privacy governance framework that ensures appropriate and adequate policies, processes and systems seamlessly integrate privacy into business-as-usual practices.

This session is suitable for Privacy Contact Officers; Governance and Legal Officers; Audit and Risk Committee members; Managers; and Human Resource Officers.

Learning objectives:

  • Discuss what is needed to embed a culture of privacy that enables compliance
  • Using the Privacy in Local Government resource, identify how to apply the privacy principles to local government situations, and what is required to establish robust and effective practices, procedures and systems
  • Recognise the importance of evaluating privacy practices, procedures and systems to ensure continued effectiveness
  • Identify opportunities on how to enhance your council’s response to privacy issues

Facilitator/s: Experienced Privacy Officers from the Office of the Information Commissioner will conduct the workshop.
