New video raises awareness about privacy rights

May 5, 2020 - 9:59am

To celebrate Privacy Awareness Week 2020, we have released a new video to help raise awareness and inform Queenslanders about their privacy rights.

In Queensland, when it comes to dealing with government, there are rules on collecting, using, disclosing and handling personal information.

Privacy laws let government use personal information for specific purposes, like delivering services to the community.

But they must protect it, explain why they collect it, as well as how they use, share or dispose of it, while keeping it safe.

This helps build trust with the community.

The video also explains what to do if you’re not happy with how your personal information has been handled.

Individuals have the right to make a complaint to the government agency, but if they’re not satisfied with their response, then they can take their complaint to our office.
