New guideline – Assessing the Terms of an Access Application

March 6, 2018 - 2:37pm

One requirement of a valid access application under both the Right to Information and Information Privacy Acts 2009 is that an applicant must sufficiently describe the documents they are seeking so an agency officer can locate them.

To assist decision makers dealing with application scopes that raise issues with this requirement, the Office of the Information Commissioner has produced a new guideline: Assessing the Terms of an Access Application. This guideline ties in with the OIC's existing Noncompliant Applications guideline, which has also been updated.
