‘My Health Record’ opt-out period is closing soon

October 24, 2018 - 3:34pm

The Australian Government’s My Health Record system has now changed from an opt-in model, to an opt-out.

The My Health Record is an online summary of an individual’s key health information including allergies, medical conditions, treatments, medication details, advance care planning documents, test and scan reports.

By the end of 2018 a record will be created for every Australian as a default—unless you choose to opt-out before the deadline of 15 November 2018. For more information about the system and how to opt out please visit: Find out more about opt-out.

Should you choose to participate in the My Health Record system, you have the option to customise privacy and security settings, including setting personal security codes, choosing which individuals and healthcare providers have permission to view and manage your record, choosing which information you would like to remove from your record and withdrawing your participation from secondary uses of your data.

More information about the privacy and security settings available for My Health Records is available here.

As the My Health Record is an Australian Government initiative, please contact their helpline on 1800 723 471 or visit the My Health Record website at www.myhealthrecord.gov.au for more information.
