My Health Record – changes coming soon

February 15, 2018 - 11:25am

My Health Record is a national online repository of your health records administered by the Australian Government. It stores all your health records in one place, so that your doctor or other healthcare providers can access this information when providing you with medical advice and treatment.

While currently the My Health Record system requires an individual to sign up, from mid-2018 a My Health Record will automatically be created for every Australian.

By default your record is open to anyone who is authorised to access the My Health Record. The My Health Record includes options to help you protect your personal information. For example, you can choose to individualise access to your nominated doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers.

As well setting up individualised access controls, individuals and families will also be able to opt-out altogether from the My Health Record system either online or via an enquiry line. The national opt-out period and timing will be announced at a later date.
