June 11, 2019 - 10:20am

On Tuesday, 11 June 2019, the Chair of the Legal Affairs and Community Safety parliamentary committee tabled two reports, the first into the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service’s progress in implementing the five recommendations of our 2014-15 compliance review with the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld). The second audit assessed the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service’s progress in implementing the six recommendations of our 2016-17 compliance review with the Right to Information Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Act 2009.

We concluded that the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (HHS) has fully implemented three recommendations, is progressing implementation of one recommendation and taken no action on the remaining recommendation at this time.

The Cairns and Hinterland HHS has improved promotion of administrative access and training in right to information and information privacy, published information holdings and streamlined application handling. It is working on its management of privacy in camera surveillance and plans to measure its progress in right to information and information privacy as part of a new Digital information and governance strategy.

We concluded that the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service (HHS) has fully implemented two recommendations and is in progress to implementing four recommendations.

The Gold Coast HHS has improved proactive release of information to the community, training for new staff and intends to create a committee to identify, manage and monitor proactive disclosure.

Both HHSs have committed to finalise work to implement the recommendations in full.
