Environmental reporting improves information access for Queenslanders
Since 1990 Queensland’s State of the Environment (SOE) Report has always been on the front foot when it comes to proactive release of information – setting a benchmark for other states and territories to follow.
The reports can be accessed by experts and the public, providing Queenslanders with greater access to a world of useful data. It also highlights the benefits of government agencies adopting a ‘push’ model, where information is proactively and routinely released, visible and linked to other relevant information.
The ‘push’ model was the central recommendation outlined in the Solomon Report, which led to right to information and privacy reforms in Queensland 10 years ago.
