While Queensland government agencies have certain obligations under the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) to protect personal information, there are steps that individuals themselves can take to protect their personal information when interacting online.

Protecting yourself online is about more than how you set up and use your computer or mobile device. It’s also about being smart in what you do and the choices you make when using the internet, like thinking twice about letting a website remember your password for you, or reading the terms and conditions when you provide your personal information to find out how your personal information will be used and to whom it will be disclosed. For example, this video from Business Insider Australia shows that people were shocked when they were asked to read aloud the terms and conditions for popular apps that they had agreed to.
