Countdown to Privacy Awareness Week

April 28, 2020 - 1:58pm

The OIC is gearing up to celebrate Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) from 4-10 May 2020, with an exciting line-up of guest speakers helping to launch the event online.

On 5 May Queenslanders are encouraged to visit the OIC’s website for the virtual launch of PAW, featuring pre-recorded state and federal experts sharing insights and latest developments about privacy, and how best to protect personal information.

The line-up includes Queensland Privacy Commissioner Mr Phil Green; Australian Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner Ms Angelene Falk; and eSafety Commissioner Ms Julie Inman Grant.

This year’s PAW theme is ‘Be smart about privacy’ and refers to the various smart technology in the home and in our communities, from smart phones, TVs, home-assist devices, security systems, cars and smart city initiatives introduced by governments.

Being constantly connected to the internet through smart technology increases the amount of data (or personal information) that’s collected about us.

And with more people staying at home due to COVID-19, the risk to personal information through connected devices is greater than ever.
