Privacy Multimedia Competition

The Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC), has launched a teaching module and multimedia competition to raise awareness among Queensland senior secondary school students about privacy in the information age.

With online services increasing, individuals are often required to provide their personal information to government agencies.  Young persons in particular may be unaware of potential privacy risks when using online services and OIC is responding to a need for educational activities raising privacy awareness among this group.

The teaching module has been distributed to the 179 high schools that offer Film, Television, and New Media Studies across Queensland, and, invites students to discuss what ‘privacy’ means to them and related issues in the information age.

The teaching module includes an exercise where students create a short multimedia presentation dealing with a privacy issue. Students can enter their presentation in the OIC Privacy Multimedia Competition for the chance to win a share of $1750.00 cash.

Entries close 20 April 2012 and can be viewed at www.youtube.com/oicprivacycomp

A list of ten semi-finalists will be announced on Monday 30 April, with the winners of the competition to be announced during Privacy Awareness Week, Friday 4 May 2012 at www.oic.qld.gov.au/youth
