New guidelines now available

The OIC has released the two new guidelines and updated one guideline to assist agencies.

The two new guidelines are:

Protections and offences which discusses protections and offences in the Right to Information Act 2009.



Office of the Information Commissioner launches online training

Today, Information Commissioner Julie Kinross launched the first in what will be a series of online training courses called ‘ABC’s for Queensland public sector employees’ about right to information and information privacy.  The first online course is a quick and sure way to make all public sector employees aware of the obligations on them and their agency about how personal information is managed.

  • Current Legal Issues Seminar

    On 7 June 2012, The University of Queensland will host the fourth annual Current Legal Issues Seminar series for 2012. This series seeks to bring together leading scholars, practitioners and members of the judiciary in Queensland, and from abroad, to discuss key issues of contemporary legal significance.



    Fast Track Negotiation Skills Training

    The Office of the Information Commissioner is offering training in negotiation skills from 12 to 13 June 2012. The course is designed for participants to learn and practice new techniques for negotiating effectively with applicants and stakeholders in the Queensland Right to Information (RTI) and Information Privacy (IP) context.



    Access Training for Decision Makers

    The Office of the Information Commissioner is offering Access Training for Decision Makers to help agencies comply with the RTI and IP Acts. This training will be held over two days on 7 and 8 June 2012. Agencies are requested to nominate their staff in order of priority as excessive demand for training may mean that not all nominees are successful. Nominees will be notified of the outcome of their nomination by Friday 25 May 2012. Note: Agencies includes GOCs, Councils and Universities.

    Privacy Awareness Week

    From 29 April to 5 May the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC), Queensland, will celebrate Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) 2012. This annual event raises awareness of privacy rights, responsibilities and protections. 

    The PAW slogan for 2012 is Protect. Detect. Correct.:



    Celebrate Document Freedom Day

    Once a year, 28 March, Document Freedom Day is celebrated globally. Document Freedom Day is designed to raise awareness about the importance of Open Document Formats and Open Standards in general.



    Concerns expressed about changes to Google's privacy policy

    Australian Privacy Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim writes to Google on behalf of privacy authorities in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Queensland Office of the Information Commissioner, expressing concerns about changes to Google's privacy policy. The letter suggests that combining personal information from across different services has the potential to significantly impact on the privacy of individuals.
