Profile of the Information Commissioner

Julie Kinross was appointed as Information Commissioner on 30 July 2009.  The Information Commissioner is an officer of the Queensland Parliament, appointed by the Governor in Council under the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act) and is responsible to the Queensland Parliament through the Law, Justice and Safety Committee (LJSC).  The Information Commissioner in the performance of the statutory functions is independent of executive government.

 

Julie is actively facilitating the Right to Information and Information Privacy reforms in Queensland with responsibility for establishing the new functions of the Office of the Information Commissioner, and working in collaboration with other lead agencies to assist agencies affected by the reforms make a successful transition.

 

Julie has worked in the public sector for more than two decades and has held positions of Assistant Commissioner, Health Care Complaints Commission, Commissioner for Fair Trading and Deputy Director-General, Department of Fair Trading and Wine Industry Development.

 

Julie holds a Master of Social Welfare Administration, Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Arts, and was admitted as a legal practitioner in 2005.  Julie also holds a Graduate Diploma in Advanced Finance and Investment and is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
