Performance Monitoring and Review

“The Information Commissioner will be both champion and monitor of the right to access information, and will support both agencies and applicants to proactively provide and seek information.”

(The Right to Information: A response to the review of Queensland’s Freedom of Information Act.  Queensland Government, 2008)

The Information Commissioner monitors the ways in which agencies proactively push information into the public domain and handle personal information, in accordance with the Right to Information and Information Privacy legislation.
Performance monitoring and reporting can include:
• Surveys of government and community experiences and perceptions
• Desktop reviews of government agency websites
• In-depth reviews of government agencies or issues
• Publishing performance standards and measures to be used for reporting
• Analysing agency data set out in the Minister’s annual report on RTI

OIC has established a functional unit to support the monitoring function, called the Performance Monitoring and Reporting Team (PMR Team).  The PMR Team conducts reviews and audits, analyses and reports on surveys and produces tools for agencies to use to assist agencies in monitoring their own performance.

Reports of reviews are made to the Parliamentary Legal Affairs, Police, Corrective Services and Emergency Services Committee or the Speaker, and tabled in the Legislative Assembly.

The Charter, Policies and Procedures Manual (PDF, 371KB) describes the policies and procedures for the PMR Team.
